Time for U joints
Any recommended brands? What about greasable vs non greasable? I have heard that the gressable ones are actually weaker. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I got the greasable one from Napa. some "offroad ones" or heavy duty or something like that. from shaft has the superlift ones :(

I'm hoping I only have to do the rear for now.

How do you do a vehicle search on their website or where can you order them from?
|
Dont quote me, but I believe it's a 1310 series joint. I've never had to actually look the number up, i've just always gone to Six States and told 'em what I was working on.
I know the rear shaft, rear joint and front joints are the same. |
Well I found a place online that has them. Its called "The U-Joint Store" and they have the rear ones for sale. They show the front set but you can't choose them.
Also should I even bother with the "high performance" set? |
Just get greaseable ones. If ford made parts with grease fittings on them I think I would not be so pissed at them. I dont get this new trend of no grease fittings and having to replace parts...
I just picked up ones from NAPA for 15.06 after tax for each one. Good luck trying to change them. I couldn't even get my driveshaft off... it must take superman or a impact wrench... somethings not right the shops doing them now. You can go for any other performance brand as well... just get ones with a grease fitting... they can last much much longer. |
Ok random question, when are you supposed to replace them?
|
id replace them atleast every 45-50k miles, i lost my u-joint in my 05 2wd at 35k bc i off-roaded so much, $350 later i had a whole new shaft bc mine just fell onto the road. its already time to replace mine and ive only had the truck for 20,000 miles.
to add to the thread tho i would go with spicer, its what i replaced my old one with and had no troubles, just every now and then just crawled under and pumped some more grease in them. |
