manual hubs on an 00

I saw the link for the 100 dollar manual hub for the 98-00 ranger 4x4s. What are the advantages of having the manual hubs over the vacuum ones?

01+ rangers have live front axles. Aka they're always locked and your transfercase controls 4wd/2wd.

yeah wanting to disengage the front axle, i think i could squeeze a couple more mpg out of it if i do that.

Disengaging the front axle will not give you a couple more mpg. Ford engineers estimate running the front drive train all the time robs about one third(1/3rd) mpg. I have other reasons I would like to disengage the front axle but the cost makes it a hard decision to convert. I was willing to pay the price to convert until I found out the 98/99 front wheel bearings may not be as durable.

I think I will keep the live axles up front.

So if I get these will I have vacuum lines to plug? Can somebody explain the vacuum hubs for me? I have a 2000 Ranger 4.0L 4X4 Auto. How do I tell which system mine has? Didn't they switch in 00.5? My truck has been repainted and the sticker in the drivers door is gone.

yes they did change in 2000.5, im not sure where else you would be able to see when it was built but you could always look at your truck and see if ya have a vaccuum line running to your hubs.........

I jacked my truck up, and when I spin the front wheel it does spin the axles and everything. Im assuming then that my 2000 is a later one with the newer style live axles. My dads 99 ranger only spins the wheel, the axles don't spin at all.
