Truck shifting real hard

Tranny seems to stay in gear, and sometimes while in 2nd (its auto) and still in range of down shifting to first and im letting off and not hitting it but giving it gas it will downshift and stay in first until I let off, bounced off rev limiter once, sometimes it just shifts real hard as if it was slamming in. Any ideas wataf is goen on?

my tranny acted that way too for a short while. then little metal pieces ended up all the way in my tranny cooler. and needless to say 3rd and 4th gear shattered.

I had almost the same problem when i had my 2000 Ranger, off and on... i took it into a tranny shop and they put it on the computer. Revieled nothing. They didn't wanna tear it apart to find out that it was like brand new in there... so they told me until it became a constant everyday thing, they really couldn't do anything. They even had it two days and it only acted up on the second day. I had just had the tranny serviced 10k miles before than too. It might not be a bad idea to take it in to a tranny shop, and have it looked at. Definately wouldn't hurt any.

Sounds like it's just low on fluid. If it's doing it in every gear it could be a valve body problem since they seem to crap out often in Rangers. I had one done already myself.

first check the fluid level and condition, it may need a simple flush and fill

Tranny fluid is a bright red, if its brown, its past time for a change. You will probably need to do a complete tranny flush.

if the fluid is brown (wipe the dipstick on a white rag or paper towel) it needs to be changed. Use a good synthetic oil and take it to a shop where they can do a full flush and fill
