Took Truck On Open Road...Sucks

i took it to blood drag then to tybee island 300 miles and i must say it sucked every hill i came up on it would kick back a gear just to maintain speed which was next to impossible...my question is would i benifit with 4.10 gears or would i need lower gears? i have 34" tires 4.0l sohc and 3.73 rear...

I would check the JY for a cheap 8.8 with 4.10s. If not I'd look at 4.30s or 4.56s

34s with 373s? No wonder you were always kicking down a gear. A poor combo isn't going to perform right. You need 4.10s minimum.

My old ranger had 32x11.50's with a 3.27 gear and it never really hunted for gears on the hwy etc cause at 65-70 it was always right around 2k rpm so it was in it's power range... I'm going to say something might not be totally right, gearing will help, but sounds like there might be something more...

4.10's are a waste of time and money if you already have 3.73's. Small small difference. I had 4.10's stock on my sport trac and didn't like it with 33's. Go with 4.56.

Sold the front diff and rear ring and pinion a year ago or so. Shane took the front diff.

HUGE HUGE difference when running 35's.....and going from 3.73 then going to 4.10.....my buddy austin benefited from my old 4.10 axles when i went to 4.88 and new axles. Made a world of drivability difference for a very low price compared to gears and install...

and yep....that was me! i stole it from ya and geared it to 4.88 and now I got a little Trac in me truck now. lol.

I shouldn't say it is a complete waste... Obviously it is improvement. But I wouldn't spend much time/money to upgrade from 3.73's to 4.10's. You'll still be geared taller than stock if you go with 4.10's and 34" tires.
If you only have one axle to regear it's not that bad, and you will get much more from 4.56 gears. Just my opinion.

I have the same problem with my 32's and 3:55's, but I'm used to it and have about figured out how to work it so it doesn't happen. When I get my taxes back i think I am going to put 4:10's in.
