Torque Converter Play

I have been throwing parts at my truck and i'm at the point of changing my torque converter after having vibration issues while driving. Now i just installed the new torque converter and seated it all the way like videos show and it will even go farther back and touch the bell housing I also noticed that I can move the torque converter side to side up and down it seems like alot of play; is this normal? or as i'm worried some bearing inside is messed up? This is a 1996 ford ranger with a 4r44e 2wd

Torque convert

I am having a similar problem with my 02 4x4 4 liter auto I have a very bad vibration I can't find replaced lots of parts and I'm thinking something to do with tranny. Please let me know what you find, converter should have a little play but not as much as you're describing, thanks

i think the play in the converter was normal i was just worried for no reason. Re-installation of trans went fine just make sure you reconnect all the sensors. My vibration i was feeling while driving seems to be greatly diminished now, i also had my custom 1 piece drive shaft re balanced. Hope this helps you decide what you wanna do

sounds exactly like the same problem i was having, it would not always act the same too but the rotational vibration is undeniable. I can say from experience not too hard to fix in your driveway. took me 4 days but i took my time and cleaned everything up I used a motorcycle jack and it made taking the trans out very easy its also a good time to do the rear main seal and I changed my flexplate as well just to be safe. This job at a shop will run more than $1200
