97 Ranger XLT DELAYED Engagement fixed
If you have been reading my post you know that I tried just about everything under the sun to get the delayed engagement out of the transmission it seem to pull good shift good everything worked except it took 3 to 5 seconds to get it into Drive. And it was getting worse. So this week we pulled it out and took it apart. First thing I found was the internal wiring harness was dried cracked , brittle and probably shorting Took the valvebody apart it had some egg shaped check *****. Checked but couldn’t find anything that had been updated. Replaced both servos they were dried up and not pliable. But the biggie and probably the number one source of all the problems was the clutches Burned up. The steels were blue and Black and friction material was difficulty find The torque converter was throwing brass. I was less than a 100 mile from a tow. Put a new converter Sonax plug and play valve body and 10 qts Amalie synthetic fluid. Cost $565.78.
truck has 151,000 miles on it. So if you got a Ranger with delayed engagement or more than 150k on it. Don’t do like I did and spend weeks and hundreds of dollars trying to to run it down and fix it on the cheap. Just go ahead and build it. My best guess is without a build you got maybe a one in 50 chance of fixing it
