Towing ranger
 

I was wonderin if my buddies 06 ranger sport with a 3.0 and 5 speed can tow my truck pretty much the same but a 05 edge on a car hauler a couple hundered mile for south florida to jacksonvill or is it to much for his truck to tow that long of a distance.

y are you towing it?

im moving back to jacks and my rearend is messed up so i cant drive it and the place that rebuilt it is going to fix it but i need to get it up there and i cant think of any other way to get it there

just be safe and get a uhaul truck or something...you don't want 2 rear ends that are bad!!! or a tranny...that would not be good.

I don't see it having a problem though, my truck towed a 19ft boat when I first had it, besides for the bumper getting messed up b/c of payload capacity...it was ok. (i got a new rear bump)

ya i think im just gona have it put on a car carrier and have it shipped up there.Thats about the only thing i can do.

if you have the money...i would do it.

my truck towed a 19ft triton bass boat about 30 miles to the dock, in and out of the water, and back to my house fine. It struggled pulling it back up and I got BAD tire slippage. but besides for that, it shifted fine, my bumper was a little bent, but thats it. nothing too serious...and that boat is pretty heavy, you can definetly feel it on a fullsize truck, it felt like an 18 wheeler on my truck :shrug:

Check around on prices I dont know if it will be chaper so have it shipped or rent a truck and trailer and do it your self. I would not reccomend pulling it there with another Ranger.

Check the towing specs in your owners manual. Find out the weight of you're truck, and the trailer. See if it can be done. Asking opinions on whether it's okay isn't going to help you.

I towed an 87 bronco with extra bumpers, doors and wheels & tires in it, on a 1500 pound trailer with my Ranger.
I have a 4.0, and I can tow that much, 3.0 are substancially lower...

Too much weight. 3500+ lb truck on 1000+ lb trailer would be a struggle..

heck ya...the boat i was towing was way less

i think you would be fine., but thats my opinion.
I've pull my 2k boat + trailer, + full tank of gas (in boat and truck), + boat filled out of the water and all the way home, but i have the 4.0L.

I'd say it was about 3-4k pounds.

do you have a trailer? hook it up and take it around the block, see how she does.

id say no unless he is good at drving a manual

i have towed a 2750lb. box trailer to boston and back twice on my bumper(class one hitch 200 tung 2000 weight) not the best of ideas but it worked.

with a newer truck like that i wouldnt risk the harm to the truck

i had towed plenty of f350 crew cab long bed dullys a good 9000 lbs truck with my ranger and had no problems, but then again I had a 4.0 .... i dont think the 3.0 can do it ... imo the 3.0 cant get out of its own way ... but like others have said, look in your owners manual and check to see what it can do .... if it says you can do it give it a try ..

pulled a 350/CC/LWB with a toe strap 3 mph? I doubt you towed 9000+ lbs on a trailer, down the road at highway speed.

trailer tow is different than strait car to car tow

i didnt tow it on a trailer ... it was with a tow strap, and no it wasnt 3 mph ...i was doing a good 55 mph ( speed limit ) but that is all besides the point, I was just saying as a rule of thumb by weight ... the most he is lookin to tow is 5000 lbs ... i was saying 9000 lbs ...

If you have AAA they cover upto 200$ towing i think.. maybe get AAA
have them tow it halfway.. then call them for another service call the rest of the
way next day... no idea if thats kosher.

R/C: 2500
S/C: 2340

This assumes an empty truck with no cargo and no passengers.

So, since a Ranger on a trailer weighs something in the neighborhood of 5000 pounds, Ford would not recommend towing it with that Ranger.

I didn't take it personal. Just calling bullcrap on a ranger pulling 11,000+lbs (truck and trailer) down the road. I assumed you either pulled a guy out, or trailered him. Around here, its pretty illegal to pull someone down the road with a strap.

this is true it is illegal, and no it wasnt 11,000 lbs .. it was 9,000, because it was just the truck, i had to tow a few of them to my work because on test drives the trannies were giving out and wouldnt move the damn truck ... so i towed them back to work ... but again i was just saying weight wise of 9,000 lbs.

11,000 lbs woulda killed my tranny

i wouldnt even do that with my 4.0.... good luck with that.. it cost around 500 bucks to do a carrier.. and thats cheap..

Ford also doesnt reccomend driving through mud pits that are 1/2 way up ur door..but we do it anyway..lol
