Tranny Overheating???
 

Did some trails this weekend "rally victo" in quebec and on the way back home my engine and tranny were getting hot, no panic normal considering all the stuff i went thru. Cleaned everything out, and now my engine is fine. but the Transmission keeps getting hot. It was staying at 120 under normal conditions but now its always climbing at 160 in about 30min. of driving. I have a B&M cooler already installed. I checked the oil and its in the correct limits.

I dont really know what else. Should i drain the tranny? Every possible things i should check please let me know. I travel lots with the truck so i need it to be serviceable. Also, what is the danger temp for our trucks? (Ranger 2006 FX4)

160 isn't really hot at all, pretty normal. 120 is too cold

All this time it used to be 120-140 in those temperatures... and now its always at 160. Expecially the outside temperature is getting in the negatives over here. so come summer time i dont know whats going to happen.

Any mud on the trail? Maybe its packed into the cooler and radiator.

How hot did you get the trans?

If you topped 220 I would replace all the fluid.

My sport trac, even with a bigger cooler, normally ran around 150-160. With factory cooler is was in the 180's.
My F150 sits around 150-160 in normal driving, 170-180 in traffic with higher ambient temps.

Thanks guys, the temperature didnt get above 205 roughly. when i got home i washed the entire front end with my pressure washer. it looks clean maybe there is still mud stuck in between the holes. I can try to take it off and wash it back to front.

A pressure washer has the power to bend the fins flat. I would inspect every inch of that cooler.

The fins are fine, everything was cleaned and i went for a trail today and everything including the engine started overheating in less then 10min. People are telling me its my fan clutch that is broken so the fan is not spinning fast enough to keep everything cool.

The oils look good but starting this week im going to start by changing the engine oil again, and the tranny oil. are there any air vents that could be pluged up that could cause overheating? I know there is a vent on the tranny on the driver side.

Then take a look at the fan clutch see if thats the problem. Other then that, im getting kinda P*** Off cause i dont see where the actual problem is, i rather have something broken in half then something like this.

Then there is the thermostat that could be off.... i have to find where that is?????

Again, any one that has had overheating problems... let me know what you did.

If the trans and engine are overheating i would check out the fan, fan clutch, shoud, etc.
