trans interchange ability 5r55E

ok.. i am headed down to TN in Dec and gonna go JY hunting... I need a new BW 1354 Elec shift.. mine is shot..

I was wondering if a 5r55e from a 01+ ranger/explorer/trac/sport 4.0L SOHC will be a direct bolt in to a 98-00 4.0L OHV 5r55e.

I had the thoughts of just getting a whole trans and T-case and rebuilding the trans while i have it so its ready for my truck.. that way no down time on my truck except for install..

i know its gonna be alot easier to find a 01+ then a 98-00 down there..

you should be cool and swap in a manual...

/end hack.

Should bolt right to it no matter the trans. i know my 01 SOHC tcase flange is exactly the same as my buddy's 98 OHV tcase flange....and he also went from auto to manual while using the same tcase.

I wasnt asking if the T-case was the same i was asking if the 5r55e was the same same. i know the T-case completely swap with out the problem...

i want to get a 5r55e and rebuild it for my truck....

i wanted to know if i could get a sohc trans for my ohv. being i know i can find sohc trucks down there now ohv will prob be a problem...

yes a manual would be fun but i want to keep the auto on this truck so the GF can use it when needed..

There are still quite a few ohv's around north al and TN. You could probably find it. What time frame in dec are you thinking of coming down?

As far as I know the 5r55e is a 5r55e, probably minor differences of the years as they fixed issues.

That would be my guess.

The sohc has a slightly different setup. IIRC, the dowel pins are in a different location. If you remove them it may work.

Try searching over on rps.

The 01 up trans will have the speed sensor in the trans, but it shouldn't affect anything as long as the sensor is still bolted in its hole and just not plugged in.

2002 and up 4 door explorers use a 5R55E, but its a totally different transmission and will not work in your ranger.
