i have a 91 ext 4x4 4.0 ranger with an a4ld. the trans slips a little and the park pin is busted. i know someone with an 88 4x4 2.9 5sp and he said he sell me everything to convert it for 200 bucks. what should i do? i like the idea of having a 5 spd so thats not an issue. ive heard the 5 spds are weaker,is that true. id like to only do this once,so if id be better off with another a4ld ill go that route. like i said i dont mind having the 5sp(prefer it)and swapping it doesnt matter to me either. im looking for something that will last. thanks guys!

 

i think the 2.9 bell housings are the same are the 4.0

 

yeah i think it will bolt up,but want to know if its strong enough or if there is a difference between the two tranny's. thanks

 

there should be they both should be the same Mazda tranny they have been using for years
