Hurst Shifter...noises?

I have had my hurst shifter on for about 2 weeks now, and the sucker is noisey. It shifts great and works good. But you hear different noises in every gear. It also gets really hot. Anyone else have these problems?

I have the same problem. If you do a search you will see its pretty common. I am about to go back to the stock shifter because I cant stand the noise anymore.

It's the same thing with my FX4 shifter. It's not insulated and you can hear the noise and feel the heat that the insulated cover shielded the driver from.

good to know i didnt f u c k something up. I can stand the noises but the extra heat is annoyin, and i hear with the hurst shifter it removed the vent, so pressure is buildin up and it will leak hot tranny fluid out the speedo cable.

That would depend on the year of the ranger. The newer ones are electrically controlled so there is not a speedo cable.

It's interesting you guys mentioned the leaking tranny. I noticed wetness on my tranny around one of the joints (hard to explain). I've had the Hurst since last christmas.

As far as noises, I can't hear the gear mesh noise over my radio. It does rattle in 3rd gear though, if I don't have my hand on it.

mine is a little noisy, although 5th gear is pretty quiet. it will build internal pressure. hasnt blown a seal out, the only thing i did for mine was extend the **** about 2 inches. it is a tremendous improvement over the stock shifter.

you can put some of the dynomat stuff under your cup holders and it should quite it down a bit, plus it will block some of the heat.

i idi try to insulate mine with carpet underlayment and inner tube pieces. but then it occured to me that if im insulating noise, im also causing it to possibly not cool as well. better to live with a little noise than to not let it get air-transfer cooling. you get used to it, i beleive mine aint as bad now as it was a year ago when i put it in.Name: fordtruck002.jpg
