CV help

I just had some front end parts worked on a couple weeks ago and I was under the truck looking for why the steering seems to flop around and what a noise was, when I noticed this.

I have driven the truck several times with it like this and used 4wd for a couple mins with no problems with cv. I have noticed a wawawawawaw type of noise from the front end and this may have something to do with it.

See the "ring" thing is missing on one cv wile the other has it. You can see where the ring use to be.

Looks like it may just be a dust shield but I'm not sure. Do you have a Haynes manual?

Haynes manuals are about useless, IMHO.

The missing ring is a protection device. Atleast i think it is, it will not cause any handling issues.

If your having issues after a repair it sounds like they fubared something plus the didn't put all the parts back.

You need to return to them and complain.

I found the noise is my tires, they arent in the best shape. The steering I havent found what it is yet but I have been told by a couple people that it is probably because of the new balljoints and wheel bearings. The bearings were blown out on one side, and the bottom balljoints were as bad as they can possible get and the uppers were really bad to. With all the new parts everything it tighter so now I can fill the bumps more and they jerk the steering wheel around more, it makes sense to me so im just going to check it out better for anything wrong.
