crap

hey i have a noise that sounds like its coming from the front end but im not to sure. its like a wirring sound a sticky gear makes but goes away when i hit the 4whl drive button(i love punchin it) has anybody had a simliar problem? either the transfer case is bad, the hubs may be shot (they are auto locks) or could i possibly be low on gear oil in the front pumpkin? any comments that may help?

never mind. the 4whl drive hub was coming loose. i tightened her up and gave her a grease massage. that seemed to fix it

not too sure. prolly whats on the odometer. just about to hit 150k. but i looked at it a uv joint is bad and i think the inner wheel bearings are shot. but i tightened em up and havent heard a noise from em unless im turning sharp now

edit: btw i just noticed our rangers are very similar pic and motor wise... lol

I would get that after i went from 4wd to 2wd. Even a couple days after. It would start soft and get louder till BANG hub disengages. My left hub doesnt disengage all the time and this causes it. Make sure you back up in reverse about 15ft after disengaging. Unlocks the hubs. Manual hubs solve it all

yea well my 93 has auto's lol and actually i figured what it was. the uv joints are worn pretty good to where they are slipping before they grab, the inner wheel bearings were worn thus making the actual noise when no tension was present lol. soon as i figure out how to take the thing apart i will lol but till then it sounds like a pop can on a mountain bike tire lol.

fixed the uv joints just for giggles and took a test drive. and that got rid of the noise. still might take the bearings out and replace em.just dont know if i can spare the time to or not. the last two weeks killed me in the roofing business
