Transmission grinding

Hi guys I have a 94 ranger 4.0 5 speed an a couple days ago it started to get a shifting issue but then it stopped an it started back up again today. I would be driving an id go to downshift and it would grind like it's not engaging, then I'd try to go back into the previous gear I came from and it would grind and not engage in that one too, when it first started I was able to get it to engage but today it would just grind and grind all the way until I came to a complete stop then I'd go to get back on the road an keep going an I would pick up speed and go to up shift an it would grind an not engage but then it would just "fix itself" an keep going but I'm not driving it again before I cause further damage , has anyone ever experienced this? Or have any tips?

Tip one stop driving it.
Tip two check the clutch fluid
Tip three check clutch throw out bearing travel
Tip three get ready for possible clutch replacement if the above is good.

Most important if you needed help with diagnosis I suggest bringing it in to a shop you trust for repair
