Ive had my 5speed in for about 5000 miles now and had zero trouble until today. I drove to work today and got all the way there (about 25 miles) some highway some red lights and stop signs and no issues. then as soon as i go to put it in first to turn into my parking space it won't go. it feels like the synchros when your going to fast it won't let you put it in. but if you just lightly push it a few times it will pop into first and its the same on all gears so i doubt its mechanical what are the odds of all gears failing at once? Also checked the fluid in master cylinder it was good and the clutch seems to disengage since i put it in first and then started the truck it didn't buck and actually rolled back when i took my foot off the brake. It just had fresh synchromax put in it and and ran fine for about 100 miles but idk if thats a problem from the fluid or just coincidence. i checked the fluid when i got home and it was a bit overfull but no where near enough to cause problems. trans was under a little pressure no idea if its related from hurst shifter (my vent got clogged) will be fixed tomorrow. Only real difference i notice is the pedal is a little less stiff than it used to be but i just thought that might be from the parts wearing in now. Sorry for being long winded just wanted to be thorough on what i had checked. Anyone have a suggestion on what to check?

 

Just about every ranger i've driven it's easier to put into first when you are moving around 5mph. Some of those fluids aren't really for ford trans, like syncromesh. I stick to atf.

 

Yeah I've heard both ways but it feels way worse with regular ATF and i bought the trans used and it had royal purple synchromax in since 2000 miles and looked immaculate inside i only used ATF to clean it out cause it sat for a few months in a shop and i didn't want to waste the expensive royal purple.And thanks for the input!

 

did you put a new clutch in the transmission or was it the old 1

i would install a centreforce clutch in it and forget it

 

yeah its got a brand new rhino pac clutch from rock auto looked just fine through the inspection plate so I'm thinking it wasn't bled properly the first time around! Ive had all day to sit around here and think about it/ inspect everything so I'm going to try to rebleed it and see what happens.

 

i would open the bleed screw and slowly let fluid drain out
( keep the clutch master cylinder cap off )

what i always do is grab a plastic or glass jar ( large ) fill it 1/3 full of water , then fully immerse the drain tube in the water

this old school method prevents any air from being sucked back up the drain tube

open the bleed screw slightly to allow dribbles of fluid to exit , the pumping action of the clutch pedal forces any trapped air down and out of the system ( i do it any time i bleed brakes lines , works like a charm

remember , you have to keep some pressure in the system to force the air bubbles down and out
