Transmission problems

Transmission problems
New guy here. I have a 07 ford ranger xlt with the 3.0 and auto transmission. I can’t recall which gears exactly ( been a long day ) but in most of the gears it’s got a pretty rough shift and and jerks when shifting through some gears. It also seems like it doesn’t want to go when I press the gas down a little bit. Sometimes it acts like it doesn’t want to shift down, and when going up even the smallest hill sometimes it’ll shift down on me for the higher rpms to speed back up. So I’m having all kinds of issues here. I have pulled a small boat with it a few times and a atv on a trailer, since then I feel like my transmission has progressively got worse. It also has 180k highway miles, I travel a lot as a college student and work, so budget and time is small, what all can be my issues? Is it on the way out or can I fix it myself? Thanks for any help guys.

Step one warm the truck up to operating temperature on a level surface, check the transmission fluid level on both sides of the stick.
make sure the fluid is full, look at the fluid is it dark and burnt looking? does it smell burnt ?
Does the truck have a check engine light on or a Flashing OD light?

You have 180000 miles on your truck, with the little information provided it will be very hard to help you.
I suggest you drive this truck around while you make a video and comment on what your noticing while driving.
Then write up this post again with a clearer description as to what your truck is doing.
So far it does not sound like a transmission problem only.
If the fluid looks good and does not smell burnt to you how about dripping off some of the fluid on a white piece of paper then take and post a picture so we can see what the fluid looks like.
With the mileage you have and the condition of the fluid it must not be original
When was the fluid changed? did the problem show up after the fluid change?
