Finished building my front driveshaft.
Hey y'all,
I don't know if anyone read my old thread about building a front driveshaft disconnect, but here is my newest version of that shaft. At first I just kept the CV and added the disconnect, which helped for a while, but I got tired of rebuilding that stupid CV.
We took a rear driveshaft from and 85ish F250 for parts. Sorry for the cell phone pics, I don't have time to get a camera and take pictures when I am building things.
Tell me what you think.
Finished.
New shaft on the right.
New shaft on the left.
And a pic of my BFH:

The joint doesn't bind at all.
It fit snug inside of the outer race of the CV. It is welded on the inside and out, not just that short bead that you can see.
The single U-joint should be fine, with that disconnect that joint doesn't spin all the time. At least there is no load on it when it isn't locked in.
I had the truck out last night and it did well, no problems so far.

It is a driveshaft for an automatic vehicle that would be towed for long distances. (i.e. behind an RV) It allows the rear axle to spin freely from the rest of the drivetrain. It is actually a quite expensive part. ~$1,000
Here is what it looked like before, along with the locking/unlocking mechanism:

The collar does rattle a little, but I need to put new detents in it and maybe it will stop.
