U-joint help

Im replacing both U joints in my axle... i got the front out out, everything went smoothly. The rear one is a different matter. The retainer clips snapped off on all 4, so i have half the retainer clip holding everything in and no way of getting it out. Anyone have any ideas on what to do? short of taking it somewhere.

Any help would be great... Thanks!

Since only half of the clip is in there you might be able to get it out with a pick or maybe a small screwdriver??

Small chisel or pin punch. that or torch it (u joint, not clip) out if you have an oxyacetylene torch availabe.

I tried a small chisel and a small screw driver to get under them and get them out. I don't have a torch, I'm thinking tomorrow I might have to take it to my local mechanic and have him cut the u joint out. I can't even get a pair or needle nose on them to get them put

Should take about 2 min with a torch, even a sawzall could do. I had one break once, luckily over half was left which was plenty to hammer out.

I ended up getting them out and the new ones in... thanks to a dremel and some grinding wheels and pads lol They were so rusted in there, no amount of tugging or hitting with a hammer and chisel could get the retainer clips out... so the broken parts that wouldnt come out, i ground down, and cut a new grove in with the dremel. Took me a while, but i got it done. A lot easier than taking it somewhere and having them cut it off.
