2004 4x4 transmission slip

Hello everyone, just joined the forum. Love the techs and accessories. Question for anyone....I have a 2004 XLT 4x4 4.0L automatic...when I put the truck in Drive and slowly step on the gas...it seems that the tranny is slipping. It only happens in first gear and at low speeds or on a hill. I know someone else who has the same truck and the same thing is happening. I returned it to the dealer and they "greased the yolks". But it continues to happen. Does anyone know what this is? I'm not a mechanic so I dont know squat.

I've got 29500 miles and its pissing me off. I did have the recall fluid added and it seemed that after that there was more of a slip. I've got no lift and stock tires. Its puzzling to me too. Thanks for the feedback. I'm going crazy!!!!

go get it flushed. if you are hard on your truck 30k is time to do it. just like twoplusone said, flush, filter and new gasket, that should help

Valve body failure is common on the 55r5e transmission. That fixed my problem.

ya that tranny fluid additive WHAT A JOKE! ill tell ya, im king around here for 2004 tranny problems! where should i start?

at 5500 miles, thats five thousand, five hundred miles, i had issues with the tranny, so they went with the normal BS of "it doesnt happen when we drive it" then at 8,000 they did the recall, and let me tell u bout that recall....

it would slip allitle before, after the fluid it slipped ALOT like, out of gear while accelerating for a good 5 seconds... take foot off gas slips into gear... oh it get better! the truck STALLED in reverse... ya, nice additive...

so, to make my long story short, they have replaced almost all the innards of my transmission before it hit 10,000 miles... pretty nice huh? oh and its got an electrical short that I had to fix, but its only 95% fixed. dealership says im dilusional.

Not trying to be retarded but could it be the normal operation of the
torque converter? The torque converter wont lockup in 1st gear so you can
sit there with your foot on the gas and not move on a hill.. and its normal operation.

i have an 04 ranger with 48k and i just got my valve body replaced and 2 days later problem is back. my OD light doesnt go on but it seems like when i hit around 40mph the tac will feel like it falls into a groove just under 2. engine will rev when i accl. but wont go any faster. i have to get off the gas and get back on hard for everything to work right. i also had trouble shifting from P to RorD. didnt shift right away and then would drop into gear real hard
