Want to install 3.73 rear end
 

I don't know much about drivetrains or motors as some of you know. But I have decided I want to remove the 4.10 rear end I have and install a set of 3.73 rear ends so I have better acceleration and better fuel economy. I currently run about 10.9 MPG on my 2008 Ranger XLT 4x4 - I have a Flowmaster exhaust system, K&N Intake, and diablosport programmer setup, it makes about 30 more ponies than it does stock (stock - 207 hp) (now about 237 hp) (4.0L SOHC V6). My acceleration at the track is a joke until I hit around 60MPH and get into second. I will post a video soon of my track acceleration.
All I want to know is:
1. How much will it cost to remove 4.10 and install 3.73
2. Is it worth it
3. Or should I just buy another Ranger that has 3.73...

You realize your acceleration will decrease with 3.73s right?

What are you doing to get 10.9MPG? I have a 4:10 in my 3.slow and even gunning it all the time I got at least 13 MPG. Though, If you baby it like I'm doing now, it will fix the MPG issue because I'm currently a little under 3/4 tank and have 109 miles to it. Btw, a 3:73 will definitely reduce your acceleration because you will have a lot less torque with a 3.73 than a 4:10.

AC is on for 10.9 MPG - Plus the power programmer I use, and some mods i have

i have a 4.0 sohc, tuner, intake, cat back, plugs, wires, e-fan, 4.56 gears, and 33" tires. i get 18-24mpg city/highway.

something is wrong with your truck if your getting 10mpg.

if you want a better quarter mile time, buy a mustang, these trucks arent fast.

Well I live in Wisconsin and I haul stuff a lot as well, and I go cruising on the weekends which typically involves horsepower showdowns...if you catch my drift. But do you guys think if I upgrade the coil, plugs, wires, injectors, maybe that is my problem?

If it doesn't fix it, it will sure help out. Be sure to check your fuel filter too. If you really want to fix the lack of power issue, just check into doing a V8 swap. I know a guy who just replaced the whole front end of his Ranger with one from an Explorer and connected the wiring, fuel line, and drive shaft.
