He's right: if you get the right stuff lined up cheaply enough and know what you're doing (or have someone like Gil who knows what they're doing) -- it can be done surprisingly cheaply.

I spent more money on tools than parts -- because I wasn't very well equipped. I spent more time than it should have taken -- because my skills weren't very well equipped, lol.

maybe i'll find a job in colorado so i can have you help me with the sas :D
i really want to stay here(this area, aka colorado), but free rent back home sounds soooo nice too

Because if they can prove that the tire was abused, then they wont honor the warranty. If a tire has cross tears on it, that is from something not functioning properly on the vehicle, not the tire malfunction. Tire warranties are only good for manufactures defects. The 50,000 mile warranty is only good if you can prove you rotated the tires and your vehicle was in proper maintance. No offence, but they would be able to look at your truck and void the tire warranty.

dude, a locker is not THAT unpredictable.... and if you can afford a selectable, then you're golden.
DON"T WELD IT!! You need to save and do it right, or you will have to replace parts and THEN pay to do it right.... If you want to save $ get a minispool for the front and make sure your hubs are good. As for the rear, IMO, you gotta do it right cause it sees action 100% of the time, and welded spiders + big tires + asphalt = lotsa trips to the Junk yard ...
