Wheel bearing...Tools needed?

Ok this is a weird request. I have a wheel bearing going out n the xploder and since I am in the middle of South Dakota and renting, I left most of my tools in MN in storage. I need to go out and buy some cheap tools to get buy and I'd rather not buy more than I need. Just give me a basic list. I have a basic set of hand tools, and screwdriver. But I need some large 1/2 Drive sockets and a Breaker bar. Also Anybody got some tips on getting the bearing out without and air chisel? I always had air tools at home so I feel naked here.

Thanks for the help!

Sorry. Front Hub! keep in mind it has 150K on it with not so much as a ball joint being replaced on the front and 7 Minnesota winters so Rust is an issue!

I dont know where to tell you to start... having no tools and attempting such is crazy... i wouldnt limit the list to just needing these tools only.

Yeah I am not looking forward to it, But paying $500 plus for a 45 minute job seems rediculous to me. and i don't trust it to make it back to MN

I did ball joints and a wheel hub in 5 hours. After pulling my shoulder the 500 seems cheap, if your quote included the ball joints.

You will need a 15 mm socket to remove the caliper bracket and the wheel hub. A small pit arm puller or BFH for the tie rod end.

Basicaly its like doing a brake job plus pulling the tie rod end, then 4 bolts for the hub. (breaker bar will be needed) Im not sure what is needed for the explorer hub nut, IIRC the torque is well over 100 ftlbs.

I used an impact on the wheel hub do to the tight space in there plus i had one handy.

I have done it in the driveway with out such things two. Took about 2 hours but I have a PVH truck and need to learn how to remove that damn orange snap ring.

I did the other one last fall 06. It took me about 45 minutes with the right air tools. I am just trying to get a shopping list for the tools to get for it. The $500 is labor only I already have the part and $500 for the amount of work required with the proper tools seems like a rip off. I know my mechanic in MN would charge that much.

just a set of metric sockets, i didnt pop out the tie rod end or anything very simple repair.

I've never popped the tie rod either, but how do you get a 8 year old rusted in hub out without an air chisel or heat? This is my problem. Ah hell I might as well just pay to have it fixed. I am so sick of broken down cars. The only car that hasn't given me problems in a while is the Cadillac!

Only reason i popped the tire rod end was to get he impact on the bolts. It was far easier that way. Besides i was taking it off anyway.

I used a 3lb sledge tapped the hub free. Just few on each side and it came off. No real swings either.
