Will my 28 Spline serve my purpose?

I have a 2002 Ranger, extended cab 4x4 auto 4.0. It has 4.10 gears. I am looking at getting a Powertrax No slip for it. I am keeping it with stock sized tires (245/75/16). I am bone stock power wise. I do the occasional truck pull, but otherwise just DD and pull heavy trailers.

Should I stick with the 28 spline, and be ok with the No Slip? Or should I do the 31 spline Explorer swap? I'm leaning towards sticking with the stock rear axle.

Thanks!

You should be ok. The 28 spline is plenty strong as long as you're not totally thrashing on it with big tires. As far as towing a trailer with a locker its not really the best idea. Just stay off the gas around turns and you should be ok.

the only times i've heard of guys breaking 28spline is off road and stuck with a tire is up in the air and moving, and the truck slams down onto the moving axle and the twist snaps them. i'd say you'd be okay. But hey, if you break it, upgrade! lol

exactly, if it breaks which I doubt you will then upgrade to a 31 spline
