Hot trans

Hot trans
So I just got a scangauge installed on the truck and according to it the trans is getting pretty hot, just drove it a little and the highest it got was 189* but that wasn't a very far drive at all. I'm guessing because I've got 3.73's and 33's it is helping to heat it up a little but it still seems kind of high. I have no idea if the fluid has ever been flushed before since I'm the 3rd owner, but the truck has got 62k on it. Think I should flush the trans? When I back up if I don't come to a full stop and then put it in drive the truck revs a little high and then sort of almost bangs into gear also, but I'm guessing that's the slip yoke in need of greasing.

Hey korey like I said, the highest I see normally towing is 180, and thats if it's shifting gears or accellerating uphill upwind for a while. Usually towing I see 165. Normal city driving I'm never above 150.
It's the gears...bc when I had 3.73 and 33's, mine was the same.
Offroading mine would get to 180 pretty quick, and 200 was not uncommon, but thats offroading...you drove on the street!!

I know i'm not an auto, but i think i can sorta help...
Do you have a trans cooler? Maybe it's time to upgrade to a cooler, or even upgrade to a better cooler with an electric fan blowing on it.
IMO, see if you can find an 8.8" w/ 4.10's. That should help the strain on the trans and be cheaper than a gear swap.

too many trans coolers can also slow the flow of the fluid, which will make it run hot.
mine is around 155 all the time now with the winch in front.
Try to get it flushed asap

Anyone who is wondering why their trans runs hot...it's your gears.
Keith, 180 is HOT, I don't see that towing a trailer...
Once you get 4.10's it will be fine though, anytime your undergeared, your trans will run hot. I'm a little overgeared, so mine runs even cooler which is a huge plus for me. I've had 4 servos go out, 1 trans, 1 tq converter, and the clutch bands...my truck was in/out of the shop for a solid 6 months...it was terrible.
