automatic trans options

So I need a trans for my 1996 4cy automatic ranger, and from what I understand it has a 4r44e and that was used in a lot of different combos but I need a trans forn a 96 or 97 2.3, my question is will a 96 or 97 3.0 trans work in my truck or are there differences between the 2 like bellhousing, tail shaft or electrc plug ins, I did search the forums, like all of them but I have not come up with a solid answer, my wifes car that she had before we met has become unreliable so I put her in my car a while back and I need this truck up and running asap, and I have limited funds so a rebuild is almost out of the question with out using money I really don't have but 2.3 automatics are not as easy to find as I first thought. So any helpful info is greatly appreciated cause I'm kind of screwed.

3.0l and 2.3l have different bell housing bolt patterns, confusion is from duratec 2.3l, which you don't have, you have a Lima 2.3l

Yes you need to stick with the 4R44E trans because your computer operates it.

1995-2000 2.3l/2.5l Rangers, and Mazda B2300s would be good wrecking yard finds, 2WD of course
