Which transfer case would fit 2008 2.3 engine?
Been sifting through old posts for a while but haven't come up with any diffinative answer. I am slowly trying to sas my 2008 regular cab ranger with the 2.3 5spd in it. I have got my dana 30 rebuilt and ready to go in. Local shop is going to take care of any other axle fabrication, but my dilemna is the transfer case. I remember reading something about the manual shifted borg from 93-98 or something like that would fit.
Can someone one clarify which year and model number transfer case I am looking for?

Yup. The tailshaft housing and the output shaft are what needs changed. Since its a manual tranny you will need the extension housing with the speed sensor in it.

Currently I went with a late model 1354e and will just use a manual conversion to simplify finding a housing to match with a speed sensor. I have heard how rare the housing with bosses and speed sensors are.
The problem I am running into now is locating that tail housing for a manual tranny. Okay so here is the thing, the dealer says there are no listing for late model 4x4 housing for a manual transmission. They list only for autos. I too searched online and can only locate them for auto. There should be an ample supply. Can anyone explain?
I guess a better question to have answered is which years M5R1 4x4's had the speed sensor in the tailshaft extension?

It appears the 3.0L had the latest model 4x4 that still used the M5R1 and not the HD version which I do not believe will bolt to the non HD version.
It also looks as if the 3.0L 4x4 housing does not have the speed sensor in it....now what? Are there any other options that I might have missed?
I think I know the answer but I will wait for some other more experience ppl chime in.

So you are running a HD type tailhousing on a non HD M5R1? Some 3.0L did come with the M5R1HD though. I was very disappointed last night after I have invested time and money but still want my speedo to work.

I am running the tailhousing from a 2003 FX4 Level II w/ 4.0L. It is the tailhousing from the HD trans. The tailhousing is the same between the HD and non HD versions.
