"O/D OFF" light is flashing

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT with a v6. The truck is shifting fine but when you slam on the gas the light will start to flash on and off. once i turn the truck off then on it goes away. Some people say a sensor in the rear end? could it be some type of senor?
Or What could cause this to happen?

Thanks

have you checked your fluid level and the color of it. When mine flashed i ended up writing out a $2650.00 Check

i honestly think the problem might be the speed sensor considering i don't notice bad shifting when i am accelerating slowly, the other thing i noticed on the obd2 is the they are not manufacturers codes and there cow;d be 100 different reasons to why it is giving me that error i'm going to call ford tomorrow and sees if i can get a speed sensor ill reply if it works
