Before I purchased the Hurst Shifter I was thinking along the lines of cutting of the stick and leaving about 3 inches. Taking a shift lever from what ever (I was thinking Hurst) and weld it to the stub.
This way you could have any shift lever you wanted, then I was thinking just change the shift ****.
Thought about welding a bolt to the top of the shift lever to add a screw on type “8” Ball.
Finally broke down and purchased the Hurst Pkg and an “8” Ball Shift **** and I will never look back.
The main problem with the OEM Shifter isn’t the type of shifter but the mechanism from the top of the trans down. The new shifter is smooth and shifts are shorter, there was a little more noise but that was dampened with foam and sound deadening material.
I did this a while back and the shifter looks great, draws attention and is great, gotta love shifting.
