How-To: 3.0 Stock Fan Removal
3.0 Stock Fan Removal
Tools needed -Fan Removal Tool from Advanced Auto Parts. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2324.jpg -Adjustable or crescent wrench http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...5502000-tv.jpg -Ractchet w/ 8MM and 10MM sockets Steps Disconnect the negative cable from the battery w/ 8mm socket. Disconnect the reservior hose from the radiator filler neck. (don't spill, like I did) http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2333.jpg Remove the screws (10mm socket) securing the shroud to the radiator and slide the shroud up and towards the engine. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2340.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2338.jpg Loosen the 4 (10mm) bolts recessed inside the pully. The bolts are seen clearly here because the fan has already been removed. It will be tricky to see and reach with the fan on. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2366.jpg Pull out the pully enough to fit the 58mm removal tool over the bolts. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2356.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2355.jpg Insert the removal tool behind the pully and over the bolts. The pully might be rusted at the back to the metal so you might need to use the chisel method. Wedge a chisel or a flat head screwdriver as much as you can between the rusted metal and pully. Use a hammer to tap on the chisel/screwdriver and break the pully free from the rust. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2360.jpg Once you have the removal tool over the bolts, tighten a crescent wrench over the large nut securing the clutch hub assembly to the water pump drivebelt hub. Turn the wrench clockwise while the removal tool prevents the assembly from rotating. Lift the fan/clutch assembly and shroud out of the engine compartment http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMG_2362.jpg Re-attach reservoir hose and battery.
