Bumper cover removal
97 stock rear bumper. I want to remove the bumper pad and refresh with a coat of Krylon Fusion black.
Also want to do the same with the front bumper strips.
Is there any trick to removing the rear bumper pad and/or the front bumper strips or just a good strong pull?
thanks.

Take the bumper off, front and back! It makes it super easy. Trust me, been there and done that.
The rear I used pliers and pinched the tabs underneath and slowly pulled the plastic up as the tabs released. As soon as you take it off, use the pliers and pinch them the other way to spread the tabs back open so they'll pop in and hold to the bumper for reinstallation. I tryed a light scuffing thinking it'd adhere better, it actually turned out worse and the texture of the scuffed up plastic bled through no matterhow many coats I did.

Thank you for your response. I'll do a good job of cleaning them, without sanding. The current bumper on my son's truck has that light brown cover but is is dented (the actual bumper) pretty good.
Found a real nice one at the JY with the black. I just think the black looks better.
Of course the front has the light brown strips, so I'll have to remove those also to paint. I was wondering what to do with my time on a Suncay!

Kicking myself since I didn't take a "before" picture. It was your typical dirty JY bumper faded, old rusty trailer ball, look. Oh, and the rest of the truck had caught on fire. If you've seen Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, you get the picture.
The back bumper and the passenger tail light are the only thing that survived, everything else is toast.
The paint job turned out great. I cleaned, primed, then three coats of fusion, and two coats of clear. Baked it in the sun yesterday and today. I plan on putting it on the truck at the end of the week. Will take pictures then, not that a rear bumper is all that exciting. But paying $44 dollars for a stock chrome bumper, a little TLC, and a coat of paint...it's better than paying the dealer.
