'01 grille on a '98

My favorite grille style for the ranger is the black mesh that was put on starting in 2001. This:

I was wondering if anyone has managed to put a grille like that on a 98? Because I'm looking to do this myself and I'm not sure how difficult it will be, since I can't find any aftermarket black mesh grilles for the 98.

I have fooled around with the idea of choppin these off and mounting it in my 98 front end. If I am careful it could work. The 01-03 grills use the same mounting as the 98-00 ones. Im going to try and pick up one from a junk yard that has these things already broken, and try that out.

If the only difference is those two little strips where the turn signal is on my 98, then that shouldn't be hard at all. Just cut them off, paint the spot and pop the grille on right?

my question is how different are the 01+ head lights cause they look the same size and if all that changed was the turnsignals to the strips of plastic then will the heads work....i loke the blacked out 01+ heads a lot better that the 1998 ones.

I'm not positive, but it looks like they are larger vertically (meaning the little slit where the turn signal on a 98 would be is smaller).

they are larger in both dimentions.....taller and wider.

I've toyed with that idea, but using the 98 grille and the 01 headlamps on a 01-03 header panel.... 98-00 headlamps in total w/ the corner lamps are WIDER than 01+ lamps and corners...so...you'll have to cut into the grille shell for your application, as the 01-03 grille shell is wider than the 98-00 grille shell to do what you want to do.

Mr. Enterlastnamehere...it's really too bad because my spare honeycomb center grille i've got that keeps going on different trucks came from a black truck with those things under the lamps broke off. I took the honeycomb out and tossed the rest. :( Although...I do have a complete 01-03 edge conversion ready to go....PM me if interested. No shipping costs either bud...

ive got a 01+ grille that i cracked at the wings while taking off to get painted. I bought a brand new one and had that painted instead lol

I did the whole conversion on my truck, cost me less than a few hundred bucks. Certifit is the place to go. OEM quality body parts. Only thing i had an issue with is finding a decent powerdome hood to buy. I finally found one after a year of lookin lol
