sand it. use primer if the paint calls for it. make sure its super clean. no dirt grease or anything like that or else the paint will look like **** after the elements have their way with it

The only thing sanding achieves on plastic is getting a smooth finish, doesn't help the paint stick at all. Just clean it with a good degreaser and use a paint meant for plastic.

DuPont has a spray primer specifically designed to promote paint adhesion to plastic, worked for me.

It is clear in color... clean, spray primer, spray paint.

Should be able to find it at a NAPA Store or other auto parts store.

Adhesion promoter is for non-plastic paints. A paint like Krylon Fusion doesn't need an adhesion promoter to stick to plastic, its specific purpose is painting plastic. I would even go so far as to say that Krylon Fusion would be LESS effective when coupled with an adhesion promoter. Its meant to stick to plastics. When you put the promoter down, the promoter itself sticks to the plastic and then the paint sticks to the promoter. Great if your paint doesn't stick to plastic. But for KF which does stick to plastic, you aren't actually painting plastic anymore, you are painting adhesion promoting primer.

Do what you feel is necessary, but I would use Krylon Fusion and forget the promoter.

Yes you are correct in the fact that it is for paint not specifically designed for plastics, which most paint isn't AND this promoter allows you to match the paint to something else.

Krylon Fusion has adhesion promoter inside it. Hence the Fusion in the name. Using adhesion promoter first is just a waste.

He's painting the top of his bumper black. My point is why go through the hassle of using a non plastic paint and having to use promoters? You made it sound like he has to use adhesion promoter. You can get Krylon Fusion in any generic spray color, so unless you are color matching, there is no reason not to use it.

The only problem with Fusion is the limited color selection

black, one of the most common? lol

1 coat done, will i have to clear coat it? or just a few coats of this will be fine?

this front end gonna look like a beast soon. ha

for my front bumper, i can't get it off without taking the tow hooks off right? and i don't have any tools or enough room to get those off.

so how do i get the valence off while its still on the truck with a tight area?
