Headlight mod.. pealing the tape

So I did the headlight mod and started to peal the tape off the chrome parts I didnt paint. Im not sure if the masking tape I used is more sticky but it is pealing the chrome of so I stopped imediatlly before I remove too much chrome off.. Any suggestions on removing the tape? maybe damp it with water would help?

I had that problem and had to repaint my lights, covering more of the "chrome" the second time.

My advice is to use the best easy-release tape you can find and press it down only at the edges. Try not to press the tape onto the actual reflector surfaces any more than necessary. If the reflector surface pulls off, there is no way to fix it properly.

In the end, I only had to touch up a small section right on the thin reflector rim of one headlight using silver paint.

In this photo, you can see that the fluted section leading to the parking/signal light is black. The first time around, I left that chrome. A lot of it peeled when the tape was removed, so I had to remask and paint it black the second time.

i used painter's tape, and it worked great. I think masking tape's sticker...

um... try doing it slowly.. and i guess warm water might work. Take your time, and good luck with it.

Thanks for the advices, I ended up puting warm water and pealing it off slowly at an angle like you guys suggested and it turned out ok. Ended up doing it up like Bob and it looks good IMO.

Here are the results(it is dark out so the pics arent that great):

And a pic of my truck from Friday when it was starting to snow

i had a slight part of mine peel off too on one of my head lights, but luckily it was on the top part ledge thing, so it wasn't noticible at all.

pics look good!
