PATS and airbag questions
I would like to replace the cruise buttons on the wheel. The truck is a 2000 Ranger XLT with PATS. How would I keep the alarm from activating when I disconnect the battery in order to remove the air bag? I believe I know how to reset the anti theft after replacement of the cruise buttons and air bag. Thanks, David.

PATS-passive anti-theft system
"Passive" being the key word, its not an alarm, just disables fuel system if activated
If you have an alarm, i.e. flashes lights and sounds the horn, then its a Dealer added or 3rd party system
You would need to find the control module(usually under the dash) and get the model number from it to look up "disarm" proceedures

No issues with alarms. Installed the new cruise buttons, but still have no cruise. The green speed control light blinks whether the system is turned on or not. Cruise does not engage at all. Cruise worked before the truck sat for two or three months while doing a rebuild from a rollover. No codes show up on obd2 to indicate there might be some type of vacuum leak causing cruise not to work. Suggestions please. Thanks, David.

Brake switch has 2 parts, a sensor and the brake light part, just FYI
The 3rd brake light on cab is wired directly to the switch, so if its not working(and was, good bulb) then its a switch or fuse problem, fuse 13 in cab
The rear brake lights pass thru the turn signal stalk(multi-function switch) and it can be the problem if only the rear brake lights are effected
The cruise module uses the brake light switch as well, so that is a shared connection between the two
Cruise also uses the brake switch sensor part, its a ground or 12volts for brakes on or off
Its a safety thing, in case brake light fuse should blow, the sensor part would still turn off cruise when brakes are applied
