Tail light " redout"?

I heard about someone that did a "redout" of the yellow part of the taillight on my 99 ranger. I converted it over to 2 light bulbs and would like to know how to redout the yellow part. Any help would be appreciated.

I suggest bypassing the paint process and jumping to '00 all red tails or even jumping to 01-05 or 06+ tails! 2000 tails are just like yours but the amber on yours are red on '00 tails.

Here's pics of all the tails I suggested...

2000:

2001-2005

2006-2012

Certifit.com or RockAuto.com is a good source for new aftermarket lenses.

I've done that before to my 96 tails, I used duplicolor metalcast red spray paint. It's a translucent paint that will still allow light to pass through.

I masked off the reverse lens area & painted everything else red & it looked really nice.

Eventually I switched over to 01 tails that I modded into a 3 bulb setup. Still have those 96 tails somewhere gathering dust

VHT now offers a red in their Nite-shades line...

I used DupliColor Metalcast red when testing products for my clear canopy third brake light and was disappointed with the color. It was too opaque to my liking. The VHT product in red is much more transparent.

I used the VHT red tint on my 99 tails. Then cleared over the entire light for a gloss finish.

You also were spraying onto a "cloudy"/translucent material. Didn't quite work the way I wanted it to on my transparent and clear canopy third brake light. The VHT product worked better for me on my particular material.

And this is a thread about doing stock tail lights on a 99, not clear lights for a topper lol
