Squeaking from truck's midsection.

I recently acquired a squeak in my truck's lower midsection.

Its squeaking when I go over bumps and stuff.

I'm thinking its a body bolt, because I'm body lifted and its coming from the general area of a block.

I was thinking of taking it to the shop that installed the BL and getting the bolts re-tightened.

What do you guys think?

Well I wanted to use an impact, but if you guys think a wrench will do.

Do I tighten them from the bed? Or should I reach them from underneath?

Don't use an impact unless you're taking them all the way out to put some Loctite on the threads--they only need to be torqued to like 55ft/lb IIRC--use a torque wrench! I used Loctite on mine and I still check and re-torque every 6 months or so.

Thanks Mike. So do you think I would be fine just to tighten them good with a big 'ol wrench?

I dont remember what the shop charged. I could call them next week and ask, but it would be best off to install it yourself with some help.

I had no choice b/c I had to work and I didnt have the tools to do it with.

jeez man save yourself alot of trouble and tighten yourself lol. I kinda laughed at some of your post but I realize not everyone has access or tons of knowledge just like theres plenty of guys on here that know even more than me and everyone is learning just like me. More than likely its the rear can bolts n in order to tighten them your going to havta pull up your carpet or final floor in the back, take out the rubber hole covers n the bolts are right there. You will need to tighten them from the top and id use an impact, then do the final tightening by hand with a 1/2 drive 12 inch breaker bar/rachet with a 3 inch extension n socket. Thats what I do atleast n thtas the best way ive found doing it by hand with the room alotted. I just retightened mine acouple weeks ago and it def helped the only problem I have is my bushings on a few will spin so I havta have a friend there to help hold them while I tighten them down as much as I can. Anymore specifics you need just let me know.

I had the same exact problem after my body lift after putting some miles on it. I used a huge pair of pliers and clamped em on with a pair of vice grips... then used a 1/2" socket wrench with a breaker bar and tightened em myself. It fixed the squeak. It's easier if you have someone to hold that body bushing from spinning, but it's doable by yourself if you do it like i did. Good luck.

^Which bolts did you have to tighten, or did you re-tighten all of them?

If you're going to do a few, just go ahead and do all of them. There aren't that many to begin with.

I had big-o-tires do the front 4 when I was getting some other work done, I did the rear bolts in the cab on my own. But, all 6 bolts on the cab are going to be difficult to turn, they should all have lock-tite on them. If they don't, they should.

I mean you should just do all of the front 6 at the same time like me and others do after there body lift. Usually the back 2 are the ones that loosen up the most and cause noise, atleast mine. Its pretty much common knowledge around here that they will loosen up some so im sure thats where its coming from. Itd really helps to have another person to stop the bushing from spinning like how I talked aboiut or you can go the route like RLong and try n do it yourself. But like I said another person will not only help to hold the bushings if they spin but also to keep you company and someone to talk to lol. It really sucks crawling around in the interior and dealing with it all by yourself lol.

Don't get me wrong, it's much easier to do with help. I recommend you ask a friend, but my point is it's doable by yourself.

Quick question guys:

How do I get to the rear bolts in the cab? I know that I have to pull the carpet up, but what pieces do I need to take off to get to it?

I havnt tried yet b/c ive been busy, but I didnt want to start taking off pieces and they be the wrong ones.

Thanks.

the bolts are almost under the rear jump seats.. and there is a circular(ovalish) rubber grommet you need to yank out to get at the bolts... hope that helps!

ive also have a similar "creeking" noise... tried tightening the body bolds to no avail!
