Hopefully will be in right around monday/tuesday give or take next week.. will give me a nice little mod day with mounting my spare tire on my VT Tiregate, and installing the Kit on my truck.. woohoo!

I dunno what the relay is exactly since the links dont work but relays cost about 3 dollars at the store.

 

The relay fixes a known issue with Rangers running HID's, flickering lights, one bulb going out or turning off and on.. this fixes it - Sure, teh relay is cheap, but try finding a relay and then wiring it up to dual 9007 harnesses, including all the loom and wire covering that this provies. . and 11.50 is a deal =)


Yep! Working on the fix, the seller is auto_sky and he runs the 9007-4 kits for $185 a pop.. that includes 4x ballast, 2x dual bulb's, and of course all the wiring.. pretty decent price considering the sucky high/low ones (With the moving parts) run about 160-170ish and never last

The relay is a whole harness, not just the relay. Its wired up for the sockets and everything, good quality.

Anybody know how the relay would go about solving the stupid daytime running light (DRL) issue? I'm definitely interested in this if it'll work.

 

what I like about it is how it uses 4 bulbs vs. 2 with the solenoid that goes out after a year...

 

ALL HID Kits come from China buddy - Any of the ones from California are just shipped over for redistributing out from mainland US :-D


But, yep, as above - the wire relay is a steal at that price, free shipping meaning its only running 11.50 for a whole setup, I couldnt even find that much of a steal gathering up old harness connectors from a junkyard, lol.



Cant wait, will be a fun little project to get it all installed properly =)


I am quite curious as to how the high and low bulb actually hook up, since its running 2 sets of ballasts per bulb.. I think it may pigtail off of the stock truck harness and then do something form there, meh.. I'll see it when it gets here! Insured for 3$ for safety =)

Yep, that's the kicker - these have a 2 year full replacement warranty on them if anything defects.. including the bulbs - so I should be covered there in case something does happen. And I'll always keep my stock bulbs in my truck in case I ever have an issue and feel the need to swap back over =)


I hate waiting games! Sitting here twiddling my thumbs just waiting for everything I've ordered in the last week to get here between today and tomorrow..!

 

Just got a message back from the seller, the relay kits are only good for the low beams. If you want a hi/low relay kit, it is $25 shipped. Looks like I'll be sticking with just turning on my headlights when going out for a drive to avoid the DRL's.

This kit comes with Relays!!! Heck yeah, Guess that's a small part of why its a tad bit more expensive than the other kits.. Check out the pictures! Fantastic quality, everything feels good in the hands.. will get to work on it in just a bit here, taking a break from working on my other ranger :-)

 

Hmm thats rather annoying - 3 good ballasts, 1 bad ballasts - power goes in, doesnt come out to light whichever bulb its plugged into


Got them hooked up though - its a PITA to get 2 ballasts mounted.. but I do have pictures of where I put mine...

Going to be emailing the person I bought them from and get a replacement.. since these things are supposed to have a warranty

 

Thats gonna be sick Mike, I'm thinking of getting a HID kit for my fogs and later on my head lights

 

Honestly - I dont know what type of ingenuity you'll have if you don't have a 3" body lift trying to put 2 ballasts in, lol... I jury rigged 2 on the drivers side next to the radiator.. an the other 2 went under the K&N FIPK II intake cone.

I -can- take a picture with highs and lows on though - no worries on that.. Ill just have to unplug the ballasts and swap the bulb plug around so the high will come on.

4300k is a nice color temp - a little whiter than the yellowish OEM bulbs, I still will have to re-aim them, havent taken them out yet to see hwo they work at all.

 

No surprise. Seems like a huge amount of people who buy cheapo HID retro kits have ballast problems right off the bat. The others have problems with them a few months down the road. You get what you pay for.

 

holy crap...I think these are the ones that Tyler had on his truck. I can't wait to have money to get the set he had.

Mike...you may need to dremel the bulb some to flip the bulb the correct direction....bulbs need to be vertical.

Mike...what you doin' later tonight? I kinda wanna swing by and take a peek at this new kit!!

 

Feel free to man - I'm up all night form now till whenever - Swap out a 50/55w ballast if your runnin one and check out the highs



The best part with this kit - You dont have to dremel out the bulb to flip it Its perfect stackd on top of each other - the foam seating its secured with is able to be moved where you want before you twist tighten that plastic ring thing for our headlights... lets you adjust it wherever you want it.


Right now the lows are the lower bulb, and the highs are the upper bulb - There is a rather large difference between high and low - as in high is like a foot higher from about 6 feet away pointing at a garage wall - I may try ajusting the bulb a little to see how it works.


Frustrating only being able to run 1 bulb in high and 2 bulbs in low.. Checkign on prices for a good 50/55w ballast.. they actually seem to be pretty cheap - only around 25-30 bucks for one shipped

 

all my ballasts are 35w....those 50w bulbs won't take out my ballast will they? I don't have any spares lying around...gave my only spare to Jeremy.

 

Just took it for a run - going to try to get the bulbs sideways I think - right now there is a ginormous difference in projection height switching between lows and highs.. if I put my high beam right where I want it, it puts my low beams quite low.. they pretty much are as low as my fog lights - going to experiment with it a little bit real fast.


With that ballast thing - I have no clue if they will or wont honestly - I dont know if it will mis-power the bulb either, probably best not to try -laughs-

Modified teh housings and the bulb mounts to get a much better diffusion//glare reduction.. still running only "lows" right now, waiting on the delivery of a replacement ballast to get the second bulb working.

These first few shots show where I mounted the 2x Ballast per side.. passenger side was nice and clean - a little bit of work and a couple nuts and bolts gave me a perfect spot for the mounting.. thanks to a K&N FIPK II cone filter, and a 3" gap below it :-D





This next one is sorta dirty.. honestly really really tough finding a spot for 2 ballasts on this side of the vehicle with as short as the cables are.. perhaps down the road I'll modify the battery housing and mount them somewhere in/around the fender well area.. But I got them to fit at least!!

This first set of pictures is right after I installed them and had them runing at night time.. quite unsatisfied with the low's, you'll see why here - notice the light spread going all over: For the info: NO - This is NOT bad glare to the opposing drivers, 80% of the light was beaming straight down at the ground, and there was next to no light going much higher then that - I tried driving like this and it wasnt too cool - maybe in a city cruising around it wouldnt be too bad... The large amount of light on the building is actually light reflection from the rocks where these were pointing.. the camera picked up alot more then the naked eye did in this case.






Here is the High beam, Note: This is only a single headlight - One ballast was bad and I am getting a warranty replacement on it as I type this - Fantastic night vision - it seems rather bright, but remember.. the building its projecting onto is a cream/white building as well, so it seems much brighter then it really is. The switch in distance to highs was incredible - it raised the beam in quite the opposite direction as the lows - I did drive around with the single high beam light, and it was actually absolutely fantastic - I am pretty sure I could have put it on high beams and passed people without a problem, the light output was pointing sky high, and illuminated lots and lots:







Again though - not satisfactory with the lows... So I decided to do some dremeling to it (Dont have any pictures of this stage.. it literally only took me less then 3 minutes per headlamp and bulb.. just removed 2 notches, and cut a new notch receiver into the bulb to center it straight up and down in the housing.


This is the after product.. since I decided to unplug the single headlamp issue until it coudl be resolved, I swapped high/low and focuesed the headlights quite low - now this is my normal headlight pattern, as perfect as it could be!
















HID haters - please.. dont flame this - I followed behind my moms brand new Subaru Forester on the way back home last night, and chatted to her on the cell phone to make sure the aiming was right - driving 20 feet behind she didnt get any glare in her mirror.. my stock housing fog lights had more glare then the headlights according to her - I have my drivers side aimed lower then the passenger side like it should be, very clear line of seperation between light, and no light - great work on getting these thigns working well!
