Blacked Out My Ford Emblem

We'll Ive been looking for cheap mods to do so I decided to try the emblem color change mod. https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...or-change.html

I decided my best bet would be to go to the junkyard and grab a few spares to mess around with rather than taking the one off my truck and phucking it up. Good call on my part. What a pain in the *** this was! I snapped the first one in half while trying to seperate the two pieces. So I had a good surround and a broken insert. The chrome surround on the second emblem i got was kind of beat up from trying to pry it off the truck at the JY, but my brother was able to seperate it, (he has more patience). SO I had a good insert and a good surround to work with. Got it all sanded down and painted up, glued it back together with crazy glue and it ate the paint. ****!! So I finally got it painted again and this time used Silicon and so far everything seems to be fine.

Took the old one off the truck with a hairdryer and some fishing line, cleaned up the glue residue, and stuck the new one on with some 3M double sided adhesive tape. Hopefully everything stays in place lol.

that seems a little odd that it would yellow, the paint won't yellow, there should be no reason that it would yellow and the unaltered one wouldn't... they are both stock parts... that would be like painting your headlights and having the lenses go yellow 2 months later...

Evan, did you maybe loose a coating of something on the outside of the oval?

i know you can get outdoor UV protectant lacquer, which comes in a spray can, but i also know that it is illegal in a lot of places, my area is one of the only ones that still sells it around here... that SHOULD keep it from yellowing...

Hey Guys! This is something I'm interested in doing to my truck... Anyways.. was browsing around threads and links etc.. and found this...

"Barrman" said, and I quote - "if you do this method on basically any color other than black, red, and yellow, it'll turn yellow. It isnt the paint thats turning yellow... its the envirotex. envirotex is intended for indoor applications, and when its exposed to the sun, it starts getting very yellow, very quickly.

there is another product called 'everlasting elegance'. you can use it in place of the envirotex. the only difference is that instead of pouring the mixture over the emblem right after you mix it (like envirotex) you have to let the everlasting elegance set for at least a few hours and REALLY thicken up before you pour it over the emblem. " The link for this is --> https://www.ranger-forums.com/f59/ho...emblems-10026/

Hope that helps!

you've just made me want to do this to the grill and tailgate as well... but possibly colour matched to my truck DSG :).

What exactly was your process?? did you somehow very carefully mask off the chrome then just spray it with several light coats? was there any sanding or anything done, looks so glossy. Very sick

The color change mod with everlasting elegance is a completely different kind of emblem. The one done by the OP is plastic and you sand and spray. The other kind is for certain year grille emblems , 04-05 at least that have a sort of gel that can be pealed away but not reused, hence the envirotex or everlasting elegance that you pour back in to take its place. 2 completely different mods, the OP should have no problem with his yellowing.

Nope. No yellowing to date and I dont see it doing so. I do have one small spot inside the "o" that the paint seemed to get eaten away at, but its hardly noticable.
