Cap on over-rail liner

Hello,
My first inquiry...

I have an over the rail plastic liner installed and I found a used cap for a good price ($200). I'm wondering if it'll fit right on there for the time being. I plan on eventually getting either a spray on liner or at least something better once I save more money. However, for the time being, I'll need to keep the liner in there.

My main concern is, by the looks of the photo below of the actual cap, it looks like it's one of those skirted caps. Either that or it's just a really nice fit. I saw it in person but didn't think to look that close. It's a wee bit of a drive or I'd just go look at it again.

Anyhoo, any insight/experience with over rail liners and leer caps would be appreciated. I've attached a pic of my truck bed and a pic of the actual cap.

P.S. The liner already has holes cut for some kind of lid on the front and back/both sides. Also, the cap will need to be repainted as it's close but not quite matching. A local shop can paint it for about $300. The shabiness appearance of the cap is just dirt. It's in very nice condition, just on a wrecked Ranger.

Just take off the bed liner. I did it when I got my cap. I threw down a piece of carpet on my bed floor. Do not put the cap on top of the bed liner it will look terrible. If you really think you need a bedliner in there trim it so it will not go over the rails.

Thanks. I was also considering that. Initially, I'll just be taking the cap to the body shop and drop it off which hopefully won't be more than a day or so.

Well, I removed the liner today and it wasn't as bad under there as I expected. A bit of dirt and a couple leaves besides the scratched up rails.

I'll be driving around with a mismatched cap until Monday, lol. After that I may put some attention to the rails. It rubbed through the paint in a couple spots so I'll have to touch that up.

All in all, I guess this thread is now deemed moot as the liner is no longer an issue.

Does anyone know if the sealer/tape is usually stuck to the cap or the bed rails? Wonder if I need to swing by the Leer dealer and pick some up even though the cap will only be on there a couple of days until it gets painted.

It's either or, but if you stick it to the cap, you won't have the stupid rub strip stuck to your truck if you ever want to get rid of the cap.

Ok, cool. Thanks. My only concern with the tape was if it was damaged on the cap upon removal of the truck its on now and running around with the cap on for a couple days without it.

After it's painted, I'll probably take it to the Leer dealer to make sure it's on properly and have the locks/keys replaced. Maybe I'll see about a dome/cargo light in there.

I made the mistake of putting the strip down on my bed when I installed my tool box. The passenger side rubbed off, but the drivers side still has crap on it.

I put mine on the cap. My grandfather has done the same.

well I'll be a...

Well, it seems I don't need to have the cap repainted after all. It turns out that the wrecked ranger it came off was an exact match to mine. It does need a serious cleaning though.

I just have this nasty scratch towards the back to contend with...

(sorry for the large crappy pics. I sent them directly to the web via my phone)

Luckily, the tape seal was stuck to the bottom of the cap. It did stick a little to the bed it came off but didn't break or rip.
