painting the frame.

i want to paint my frame, i actually started it in sections, but its a pain to scrape off that frame coating, then sanding it to get everything off, i know theres rust remover sprays that you can get, but what about the frame coating? whats a quick way to get it off, some kind of solvent or anything?

also since its getitng warm again, its time to clean my engine, theres some baked on crap on my manifold and whtanot, is there a powerful cleaning spray i can get that will clean some of that up nicely, or is that on there to stay?

thanks!

Wire wheel on an angle grinder/drill to get the frame clean is gonna be the fastest. I haven't had good luck with herculiner. I read the can afterwards and it says it won't stick to unpainted surface. This next time i am gonna use 2 part expoxy primer.
For the engine use simple green. I use that to prep the frame before paint to.

that aircraft paint remover stuff gets it off so easy, just read all the warnings before using it, its bad stuff to get on you, you can get it at almost any auto parts store, be sure to prime before you paint! and clean the surface real well ofcourse

its too rusty and with a BL you see too much of it haha. i have to spend as little money as possible right now, but i can't stop working on my truck, i'd go mad.

i used a air gun with a sanding disk on it to sand down the section i did, went pretty good, but so i didn't clog up the disk i used a cabinet scraper to get as much of the coating off as possible, i'll have to look into that aircraft paint remover, but is it safe to rinse down the road or use it outdoors?

As far as the motor goes Simple Green is the only thing I would use doesnt hurt anything and is 100% biodegradable. For the fame I am interested in what you decide to use while I am installing my BL in the next few weeks I might just do this all at the same time

seriously, for living in Ontario, you are wasting time and money on this project. Just keep the frame undercoated. You'll thank yourself in about 5 years after your frame is still in 1 piece.

POR-15 (paint over rust) nothing short of a chisel or a grinder will get it off once it dries if the surface is prepped right. $40 for a quart but its worth every penny.

I'm with Herm on that one Razor. you suck. haha.

Mike; i know for living in ontario its a bit of a waste, but i can't stand looking at rust on an 08, so if i have to do a half assed job touching it up every spring, im fine with that.

Well if you're gonna do it, use POR-15. That stuff is amazing.

Just before you paint the metal, wire brush any rust off, use fine grit cloth back emery cloth (keep it wet so it doenst clog). Then clean all metal with Acetone. scrub it with acetone. Prime and Paint... Paint will stick until severe impacts.
