Post New to Forum: Factory Foglight Protection?

Hi all. This is my first post. I just got a new Ranger '08 4x4, and a friend of mine has a busted foglight on his Ranger. Is there any kind of rock guard that clips into the factory lamp socket? I have been searching and have not been able to find anything. I just know that mine will probably get broken from branches or rock due to the low corner location. I am also interested in any other exterior modifications that help protect from rock damage (gravel roads and branches). My truck is basically stock, nothing added yet, except for a canopy and boat rack. Looking forward to forum and any helpful information. Thanks.

I highly doubt it, especially since Ford changed the foglight shape in 08.

The only thing I can think of is to maybe use 3m clear bra on them.

Thanks, that sounds like a good solution. I found it here, 12 x 24 " for $11.50. Not sure how easy it is to apply but can't be all that hard. This would be good for rock protection on the paint as well. I don't plan on putting nerf bars or front mud flaps as they usually get damaged or ripped off in mud.

I would remove the fog light and then install it. Put some soapy water in a squirt bottle and then spray the fog light place the 3m bra onto the light and then squeegee all the water out from under it.

I'veseen people take their lamp off, put on some chicken wire, and wedge the chicken wire in between the lamp and the valence. That's an idea....

Chicken wire...

Wouldn't have thought of that one! Now that gives me some ideas. I was looking up the 3m film but couldn't find the tech specifications on their website. I wonder how much force it can really take, rocks hurtling at XX km/hr??? I know that there are a lot of different sized meshes out there or can make a custom guard.

XPEL makes special thick covers for all kinds of vehicles' headlamps/foglamps and they are pre cut to shape. I have a set. They have worked good so far.

How difficult was the xPel to install? Were you able to get all the bubbles out? Did you do the headlights too?

I am considering that but was wondering how difficult it was to install and have look invisible.

Thanks

George

You can get a 08-09 fog lamp (same part at some expeditions) at rockauto.com for like $40 bucks, so if it breaks just order another one. Might not be worth the $35 dollars and all your time thinking about protecting a $40 part.

+2

Its cheaper to just buy the foglamp new if it breaks.. and they wont break very often anyway - as low of a location as it is - our fog lamps sit higher then most small cars normal headlights.
