Does your hood insulator look like this?

I just got my hood insulation and thought it would be a lot bigger.

I think mine covers 90% of the under-hood.

whippersnapper02 Jun 29, 2009 09:41 PM

My 03 had a bigger one. It was hanging down from getting wet while offroading so I tore it out.

Johnbaum13 Jun 29, 2009 09:42 PM

My '05 didn't come with it.

eddiefromcali Jun 29, 2009 09:43 PM

I special ordered the insulator and thought it would be bigger, most Ive seen cover almost all of the hood

dixie_boysles Jun 30, 2009 05:41 AM

yah mines just like that

01_ranger_4x4 Jun 30, 2009 05:48 AM

no, mines alot bigger

Tys 4x4 FTW Jun 30, 2009 06:43 AM

i dont think mine is much bigger then that

because under my hood you can see those two panels on the sides

never took much notice of it though

vista4.0 Jun 30, 2009 07:46 AM

looks just like mine.

Machine090767 Jun 30, 2009 01:50 PM

my 01 covered the entire hood. man ford is getting cheap.

Roach2004 Jun 30, 2009 01:52 PM

Bigger is not always better!

lol

Tys 4x4 FTW Jun 30, 2009 01:54 PM

what i hate is how much heavier the hood on the 04+ rangers is then older ones. holy crap

eddiefromcali Jun 30, 2009 01:55 PM

I thought the 04+ was lighter than the older power domes?

Tys 4x4 FTW Jun 30, 2009 01:58 PM

maybe, i havent felt a powerdome. but i do know the normal hood like my buddies 98 has is SO LIGHT.

Heck yeah, the hood that came off my 98 weighs nothing compared to my 01 powerdome!

Fx4wannabe01 Jun 30, 2009 02:26 PM

04+ are half covered. May depend on the engine...but all the 04+'s i've seen, are half covered just as the OP's pic.

03 and older are fully covered(at least the powerdomes). The 'flat' hoods, I dont really know.

billet03 Jun 30, 2009 04:04 PM

I wish mine was like that, my '03 hood liner covers the whole underneath except for the edges. I'm going to fix that though

My 04 was fully covered. Maybe it was another one of those random things ford did where 1/2 got it and 1/2 didn't

reader585 Jun 30, 2009 07:39 PM

whats the purpose of the insulation under the hood.

blue_oval Jun 30, 2009 07:42 PM

my 06 has that same pattern

I think its to absorb engine sound. I personally like hearing my engine.

billet03 Jun 30, 2009 08:26 PM

it's to obsorb the heat from the engine so it won't melt the paint.

I have been running without it for 2 years with no paint problems. California ain't exactly cold either.

billet03 Jun 30, 2009 08:38 PM

that's cool but thats what its for, doesn't mean it will happen, Ford just wanted to cover their butts just incase it happens and they have to repaint the hood, say 1,200 of the however many rangers was made had this problem a year at about 500bucks to repaint the hood, that's alot of money, why would it be for sound dampening?
