I had the bed of my steppie sprayed with Line-X, from what I was told and saw on the web it looked like the best bet.
A little back ground - The bed’s inner box was not on the truck at the time it was sprayed and it was another three months before it was actually installed; it had plenty of time to HARDEN before it the liner had even seen a bolt head.

Once installed to factory specs it looked good but shortly after that the area around the mounting bolt heads started to bulge up. I took it back to the Shop where the work was done and he blamed it on tightening the bolt too much. I stated there was too much liner in the mounting bolt pockets but… The owner said he would handle it, what he did was open up the bulges put a hardener under them, leaving the bulging material. I told him it didn’t look good that way an was told it was what he could do.
At this time a little pi$$ed, I asked if he could cut out the problem areas and redo the liner, of course I got a NOT !
now I have one place that has either scraped up or just let go and tore, reason for the second idea is because the area under the lifted spot is smooth, poor prep I would say.

Ok I am starting to ramble, I had a poor experience with Line-X, I put a testimonial on their site stating what I have here and the fact that I didin’t like it and I am not a happy camper.
I have tried to contact the original installer since the lifted portion came up without success, he is never there when I go by and never answers his phone.

Anyone else have a problem with their bed liners, especially LINE-X… ?

This might not answer your question, but here is my opinion.
PREP PREP PREP lol.

I purchased Dupli-color's roll on kit. The "scuff pad" that it came with was hardly rough at all. I scuffed a small area for a couple of seconds, then tossed it over my shoulder. I then got some 80 grit, sanded down to primer, then got a wire wheel and went to town. I got some spots down to bare metal haha. Of course a wax and grease remover came after that.

I think that if they would have prepped it better, then you would have less problems with it. From what Ive heard, line-x is some great stuff. When I do my bed (I will do it myself) I will get it all down to primer or lower, and not just "scuff" the paint.

Have you tried to e-mail the company? Im sure they would love to know that poor prep was involved in the installation of their product.

Definitely sounds like the installed didn't do enough prep. Tell him your gonna file a claim unless he redoes it all.

Even a crappy DIY liner will come out good with long lasting adhere-abilities if the prep is done correctly.

I think he means the part the flared box sides bolt on to... the box itself.

I agree though... sounds like it wasn't prepped properly. I've beat the crap out of my Line-X's box with NO issues whatsoever. It's about 4 years old now.

 

I am talking about the metal inner part of the bed, the part the plastic fenders bolt to as FullScale stated.

If you didn’t know a steppie has two side fenders made of plastic and an inner box made of galvanized metal and tailgate made of the usual steel that rusts out, all bolted together you get a stepside bed.
I did a swap from a Styleside to a flareside, another name for the stepside.
Got the bed on a pallet, took it apart, all parts went to the paint shop, then the metal bed went to the Line-X Shop.
When I picked it up it looked the *****, but soon the little problems cropped up; I should have known better, the owner was talking $hit from the get-go.
I am a trusting guys so I went with it, it wasn’t a cheap job either.
So here I am.

Yes I agree with you guys that are saying poor prep work because under the piece that came up is smooth, sooo…

i e-mailed Line-X, did one of their Testimonials, a bad one, let’s see what happens.
