need some headlight mod help please..

alrighty, so i decided a while ago that i wanted to do the headlight mod and tonight i tried it. key word there is tried. i did my homework and searched all over the topics about the mod and i noticed that everyone was saying to bake them at 200 to 250. well i had mine somewhere in between there.. my oven said 250 so it was probably somewhere around 230. i couldn't find any amounts of time so i just put one in to see how long it would take and was taking it out every 10 minutes to see if it was started to melt the glue or anything else. after an hour and a half nothing was melting. so the headlight will not budge at all. i put in a thermometer to make sure it was over 200 and it was so i know that wasn't the problem. so out of curiousity i put in the other light so maybe it will help me figure out what's wrong. after 15 minutes the headlight glue starts to let go a little and after 20 its a little sperated, i gave up because it was like 11:30pm. i went online and talked to jared (rangerboy03lvl2) and he said his only took 10 to 18 minutes so i don't know what my problem could be. any suggestions or help or anything would be greatly appreciated. thanks a bunch!

Sara

it took us a total of 3 days...

anyways, we headed it at like.. ~300, i believe. for around 15 min. each time. We just started at 250 and worked our way up. Even, it bulged a little. Then we threw it back in there, then opened it up a little more. and on and on.

Just take your time. It's well worth it.

he's trying to paint it like this:

It took me quite some time for them to start moving. My problem was that I kept taking them out so they couldn't get hot. start with 10-15 minutes, and leave them in there progressively longer, making sure you don't melt anything while they're in there. Finally, to get it apart, I got a big ol' 'two-fister' screw driver that had a very wide blade, and that helped pop the lenses out. Also, try putting them on the bottom rack

Now how do you set the light in the oven? On the rack, or with some tin foil under it? Now that I have another DD I can do these kinds of things...

Haha thanks Bill I just noticed that. Thought it said RangerHICK... my apologies Sara!

I put them in the oven on a baking sheet with the lenses facing up, and balanced them on the little mounting screw deals so they would stand.

I need to do this mod one day... I just don't have the patience required.

Could you spray a couple coats of clear over the chrome part to keep it from coming off when you peel off the tape??

that might mess with the reflective properties of the lens. also might make laying down a good coat of regular paint more difficult. It's really not that bad at all, just make sure you peel slowly and carefully.

Has anybody color matched their Headlight mod to their truck? I just ordered color matched paint and I am going to give it a shot. I also just bought 06 corners so I can paint them to match and still be somewhat legal.

yea that took me a few hours to do but the headlights got pulled apart with a screwdriver. i think my problem the first time was that i was getting to excited and kept taking them out before they had a chance to heat up. i was going to color match but snoic blue is kinda hard to match so they are black. i still haven't figured out what to do with my corner lamps. right now i have the amber in and i really want the 06 but i don't know where to get them. but thanks for the help, i love them! oh oh oh, and.. if anyone is going to do this.. be really careful with the paint when pulling the tape off. i thought it might not come off so easily because there were only 2 light coats but it kinda chipped my paint around the edges..
