Painting clear corners black? Is this possible?

Aftermarket clears seem to be made of a different plastic and have a reputation for cracking or melting easier than factory parts. The 06+ Ranger factory corners are mostly clear but have the small amber reflector required by law. I gave mine the blackout treatment and I would agree that they were more difficult than the headlights.
Here are pics of the stock and modified 06 corners. I just followed the headlight mod instructions here, being careful not to pry too hard. I had to heat them twice for 10 minutes at 190F to get them to fully separate. The background and the rim of the clear lens were then painted satin black before reassembly.
You can skip painting the rim if you want but it leaves a whitish halo effect that looks different from the headlights.
