I'm looking to paint my grille and bumper of my 99 Ranger sometime in the next week. Just today i went out and bought 2 cans of white spray paint and 2 cans of clearcoat. (white, matching the truck) I'm pretty sure i'm capable of doing this but would anyone give me any suggestions before proceding?

1) Sand down (how much do i sand down?)
2) Primer Gray (how many coats?)
3) Paint white (how many coats?)
4) Clearcoat (how many coats?)

Oh, and the grille is almost made of some kind of plastic it seems like. Would i go about doing the same steps on this as the bumper?

clean with hot soapy water, u dont need sand the grill, I'd jsut put 3 coats of paint, no primer, and a couple clear coats.

as far as the bumper, I'd take it to a professional

for the bumper clean with soapy water like Q said then take a scotch brite pad and scuff it. get one of the red ones at auto zone or pep boys use that to sand it the paint it. theres no need to primer it especially if its the dollar crap from wal mart

Paint is paint... it just depends on how you use it.

If your gonna use spray can paint dont expect it to last that long. I have had the privilege of having my painted parts chip off and have to repaint. Now that I have this rollpan and I bought some real paint I hope to repaint them and not have to do it again for a while. You cant expect something that pretty much looks like nail polish to last long. Some parts have actually held up pretty well but doing it right the first time will save you time and effort in the long run.

i spray painted my bed rails and toolbox 3+ months ago and they haven't chipped a bit... i painted my diff. cover longer ago and it hasn't chipped... i love spray paint...

i bet stuff would ship easy, in the front, cuz of all the bugs and debris...
