Ford Drop in Bed Liner
 

What are peoples thoughts on the Ford Bed Liners that come with the newer Rangers?

I've been reading that I need to get rid of it asap because it lets in water and rusts the bed. There is one paint and body shop and the guy said I can re-spray it for around $200 in materials. Every youtube video I watch on re-spraying the bed suggests it takes 8-12 hours of work. The guy at the shop said you don't really need to sand it down or tape it much. He said just clean and dry the bed sufficiently and that I don't need much tape/poly because the bed liner spray doesn't have any errant spray and just easily goes from the can to the bed.

Any thoughts on this?

I wanted to add to this; taking care of an uncovered bed is a question i have too.

I mean, it rains, so with the drop in liner the OP mentioned, it's going to get wet and stay wet under the liner and that can't be good?

I have a horse stall mat in there now, that can't be much better than a drop in liner? Perhaps some kind of metal bed prep before putting in a drop in liner or horse stall mat?

I'm on my 2nd Ranger and have the Ford dropin liner. Got it when I bought my 2002 and took it out when I traded it for 2010. Works great. My 02 bed looked brand new when I removed it.

Damn that's rather surprising. All I've been reading is how the beds rust like crazy.

The one I have cannot get wet under it. It hooks on to the back of the bed then tucks under rails. The rain channels out on the grooves. You could tell bed was never wet and the paint was perfect.
I have it in my 2010 now. The Ford one is better than most non OEM ones I see. Highly recommend it.
Its 15 years old and still looks great and goes thru a lot of moving furniture and cargo.
