getting rid of cap, need suggestions on bedliner
 

Hey all,

We'll this spring I am going to be getting rid of my cap on my ranger. Its a nice cap but a little of the clear coat is going on it and the edges have a little cracking which made it not waterproof w/o me doing a bit of sanding/filling/painting work to it. It's also time that my truck can "feel like a truck" finally, this cap has been on it since it was bought. I am the second owner. I figured I would get peoples opinions on the cap here to see if I should sell it here or throw it up on Craigslist and write in there "will deliver within reason" and then just take the cap off when I get to the (that is assuming there is) buyer's house.

Once the cap comes off I want to put a bedliner in the truck so it stays in great condition and I can actually haul my dirtbike from time to time in it. I have only really heard of Rhino Liner and I looked them up and there is a Rhino Liner shop within 20 miles of my house, I called and told them the truck and they said it was about $500 to do the whole bed. I figured spray in would be the best, I had a molded one for my F150 and it always had water under it and it sucked.

Any other companies that have good spray in liners that I should take a look into? I dont really have the time to do it myself so I figured I would take it somewhere and have them do it. My next thought is if I want to haul things I need somewhere to hook my tie downs too... Do I have to go out and buy loops for them to hook into and install them in holes in the side of my bed? I dont see any yet, but I also havent seen the cap off of it ever so I didnt know if there were any on the top of the sides.

LineX.....i had it sprayed in my old ranger.......8 years later, still beautiful. Mine had hooks bolted to the corners.....and the shop that sprayed it unbolted the hooks, sprayed, then bolted them back on.

Fx4wannabe01 - same with me. Mine was LineX by the previous owner who also had a cap on the truck. You can see in a few spots where the white from the cap rubbed into the lineX, I guess the previous owner kept the cap when he traded it in. I could scrub the white off, but my tonneau covers it up. Mine is lineX over the edge as well, nice feature. I get to lean things against the truck without worrying about the paint, especially on the tailgate.

I have those tiedown loops inside each corner inside my bed.

As far as doing it yourself, why? I called the LineX place that did this job (they put a small tag inside the bed with their phone number), and its guaranteed for the life of the truck, regardless of owner. For $500 if you can get the same deal, the piece of mind might be worth it.

I was just in a car detailing shop getting the seal redone on my read window latch, and they tech's were surprised how thick the lineX was, and they never knew it could be done over the top edge.

What shop did you take it too? Was it a specific LineX service shop or just your average Joe? How did the price compare? I had a friend takling about Tuff-Liner or something along those lines.

EDIT: Well after looking at LineX.com I see a dealer about 25 miles from where I live and they support LineX Xtra coat or something along those lines. Can anyone vouch for that? What should I call for f I get a quote, I want it to come up over the top so I can lean things on it and I also want to be able to use my tiedowns... Do I have to ge the hooks and tell them to put them in for me? Can anyone compare Rhino to LineX?

well....rhino withstood a 5lb blast of explosive from right ontop of the rear diff.... lol (see my "is your truck bomb proof?" post in the media video section :sgrin:

OK, why Rhino Liner BTW?

Think I can get anything for my cap by selling it? It is a nice cap, its got windows, screens, and a locked back window. I dont know what to ask for it, I was guessing $100 OBO, but I dont know if thats is too high/low.

Line-x in my area for a ranger usually runs about $420ish. Drive truck in...they prep they spray. etc....you do nothing but pay. lol.

I like the Line-x product as well. Wish i would have got it when i bought the truck new.

dont care for the look of Line-x and after having to cut grants rhino liner to put new body lift bolts in and seeing just how thick they spray it in i was impressed..

From what I read it looked like LineX was thicker compared to other spray in liners (dont know who the others are from what I read on their site though)

Called LineX and got a quote of $550 for my 6ft bed. They said the differnce is they spray it on hot as apposed to Rhino's "cold" process. Any benefit either way?

Rhino was a good 1/4" if not more been a while since a looked at it

Hmm, my bolts are ontop of the LineX. Looks like they removed them, sprayed on the liner and then replaced the hardware.

rhino will do that if you ask.. but they always seem to spray over.. grant didnt get his done bought it that way.. my GF dad has had all his chevy's rhino'ed and always asks to remove the bolts and none have ever been sprayed over

Note to everyone: If and when you buy a new truck get the dealer to get a spray on for you. My dad worked a deal on his F-150 with the 8' bed he only paid $150.

Line-X. Its way stronger compared to rhino lining. If you ever feel rhino lining it feels rubbery to me.

I have Linex in my Ranger. Had it done when it was brand new. It works as I want it to. I did not have it wrapped on the top edge and my body shop was happy in case they have to work on the panels plus the cost of respraying the replaced panels. Personal choice.

As far as the ones posting that the Rhino they saw was thicker. Besides "looking" better? What actual benefit does that provide? If a thinner product can perform the same, the point is mute.
Reminds me of when people would say, it's made of plastic instead of steel. Well, I found if I broke the plastic I dented the crap out of the steel so I lost either way. So to me "looks" don't count unless it the look I want and see all day long.

Rhino lining. I love the look of it, and its harder than a rock.

I got line X and I would suggest trying to hagger the guy down. I scheduled my truck so that he would have a full day and he gave me 50 bucks off, $400. Also, if you have any friends/family who might want a liner, your local line X place might knock some money off if you can get them to get their trucks done with yours. I've had mine for 5 years hauling floor sanding equipment and it stll is in great shape, just a little faded.

Well, I have get on the Line-X bandwagon also. Had mine over the rails for 5 yrs without any problems...and I've tried to hurt it. The only thing I could do was fade it some when I spilled floor stripper in the bed. The guy who did mine removed all the hooks and bed bolts, slid the bed back and sprayed about 2 inches across the front as well. He did a FANTASTIC job, and only charged me a little over $100 (he only charged fire/ems/police for the materials..did the labor for free). When my truck got hit in the side of the bed, the body shop had a hell of a time cutting it away to replace the bed skin. When Line-X resprayed the fixed area, you couldn't tell it wasn't the original spray. I'll never have anything but Line-X.

I had mine sprayed wih Line-X before Christmas. I was able to get another member here to get his truck sprayed to. It was around $400 each. He had some deal going on plus we had two Rangers so we saved a little. Normally it's around $500. I love it. It isn't as tacky or rubbery as the Rhino Liner. Plus the Line-X was cheaper than Rhino Liner at the time.

Where you going to get it done? I had mine done outside Harrisburg, Steelton or something I beleive. GREAT guys, they even did a warranty repair on the spot no questions asked. I beleive it was about 450 or so. MAKE SURE THEY TAKE THE BED BOLTS OUT AND ALL OTHER REMOVABLE BOLTS/HARDWARE. That's the right way to do it. Otherwise you're going to have one hell of a time getting that stuff off if you ever need to take any bolts out.

Reason I went Line-X is the national warranty at any dealer. At the time Rhino did not offer that, only warrantied at the place you got it done. I beleive that has since changed with Rhino, but keep that in mind if you ever plan to move or sell the truck.

I worked several years for a company where we used speedliner (www.speedliner.com). From my experience, line-x and rhino liner fade badly over time whereas speedliner did not. Speedliner is available in several basic colors, and can be color matched to a specific vehicle.

Also, like a paint job, the quality bed liner is all in the prep work and experience of the company spraying. I would definitely look at vehicles a company has sprayed before giving up $500.
