headlight mod Q

My dad found out about me wanting to paint my head lights and now just like everything else with my truck is telling me it's a mistake to paint them. he says that they are chrome for a reason to help better project the lights at night and that i will have a hard time getting the lights balanced after I take them out. Is this total bull**** or should I take this advice. I didn't know painting a headlight was such a big deal. I already bought the used headlights and all the paint and everything, so I'm bummed now to say the least.

the only part that is reflextive is the round part where the bulb is the rest is chrome cause its easier for the company to chrome the hole housing instead of sections of it... look at the new f-150 Harely truck Ford copied off what we have been doing and painted everything but the round sections...

if you have a good set of lights i would go for it. if you dont like the outcome you still have the originals. My sugestion is to use a heat gun to loosten up the glue. BUT BE CAREFULL they can melt. so try to get them just hot enough to get them appart. TAKE YOUR TIME. I would say over 30 minuits would be fine. Just slowly heat them up around the solid part that isnt clear.

and i didnt think about it....but u could address this point.... they make the F-150's with the blacked out headlights STOCK ....why would they sell somethin like that if it was a hazard....

I've painted mine and it doesn't make a lick of difference in the beams. And having the lights balanced? WTF? They're headlights, not tires. You can easily adjust them back to their normal beam pattern. One of them is not going to be brighter than the other! Just take your time and go slow.

Thanks guys for the help! I did the mod today and they look awesome exept I'm having trouble getting the right side housing to fit back into the shield. I may run into fog issues because of this, but hopefully it won't be too much of a problem. I haven't put them on yet, but I'll try to get pictures tomorrow. I also managed to disconnect one of the 3 things that sticks out of the back of the light. It's the bottom one that got disconnected and I can't get it back in to the socket. Any advice on that would be sweet.
