I've got some 98-2000 projectors I'd sell you.. I think HID's with the stock headlights would have alot of glare, and be bad for other drivers. I could be wrong.

Freddie, HIDs in stock 01+ headlights = low glare levels.
00 and below. I have no clue.

As long as the lens is still clear and looks good and hasnt started to turn to crap then there is little glare. but if you have an older lens that the plastic is changing colors then it will glare.

I run HIDs in stock headlights in my 03 and the glare is low but i still do glare. But i would never go back to HALOGENS.

to OP.. I would get the projectors since them make em for your truck. With the projectors you could probably run a 55W hid even.

I'm aware.. I have 10k Bixenon HID's in my 01 headlights. They still glare some, but not terrible. I did adjust them down slightly, because I was getting flashed often before. However, we're talking about the older headlights.

EDIT: Idk if anyone is catching on that he has a 98-2000 with the older style headlights, not the 01-current. We know everyone has them in the 01-current

I noticed. And thats why i told him to get the projectors. And i also stated i knew little about the 00-98.. He could do that front end swap and get an 01 - 03 front end

Or he could just run em in his stock lights and see what happens. As long as they havent yellowed out to bad he should be okay.

My headlights are in good condition. the only reason i'm asking is cause i read that when you go to HID's, if you dont have the "clear" headlights, the glare is really bad. Mine are what i've been told aren't clear, meaning they have those little lines on them.

im running mine in stock. im lifted, didnt adjust them at all, and ive only been flashed once in the month of having them. ive driven by cops a few times and never got pulled over. they do glare a little, but its not bad. i like it, it spreads the light around really well.

Different headlight style, doesn't apply at all to him.

I've heard the 98-00 style glares a LOT, I wouldn't run it.

I wouldn't run it in my stockers (I have a 98). Just look at all the mid-90s Civics running HIDs behind lenses similar to the 98-00 Ranger...every one of them glares way too much.

The light output lost from putting HIDs in reflector housings is terrible. Unless they don't make projector setups for your year I strongly advise a projector.

I run stock housings, I've had probably two people flash me in the 8 months I've been running the lights. Tons more light than halogens.

I would easily take the extra light over some more glare any day. Sorry other people! lol

Sorry, I wish you'd pay more attention. He has a 98-2000 with completely different headlights that glare infinitely worse than the 2001-current headlights.

PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE, not all of you, but some of you shall pay attention to detail..

No need to shout there cowboy, wish all you want about what you want me to do.... I was replying to the thread 'in general'. Why? Because many other people search these forums for similar topics. I myself couldn't find anything when I was doing the swap. So if I searched a thread and found "HID with stock headlights?" and it was only directed to that style headlight...it'd do me no good. Having a little extra information in a thread is better than too little. 'detail' thats probably over your head.

Thanks for all the input guys. greatly appreciated. I'm getting a set of headlights from freddie, So that should take of any glare problems I might have had with my stockers.

Yes sir. I haven't had HID's in them, but they at least have the clear lens, and a housing set up much more like the 01+ headlights, which have been proven to have reasonably safe levels of glare. BTW, i'm working on getting my new headlights. If it warms up over the next 3-4 days I'll pull the headlights and box em up for you. Its like -5 windchill right now lol, so iI hope you understand why I haven't pulled them yet.

Cowboy??
Details over my head? Eh? Come again?

My point is, if a thread is about 98-2000 headlights, leave it be about those style headlights only. Because talking about HID's in 01+Headlights is different, and could cause confusion with members that aren't aware that you're talking about a different style headlight. His question was regarding 98-2000 headlights specifically, not Ranger headlights in general.
There have been plenty of threads regarding HID's as well. I had HID's in my 01 last year and there were plenty of search results.

I realize it does you no good that this thread was specifically about 98-00 headlights, however, if we start mixing and matching when talking about what should work, and what should be safe, etc, then there will be confusion, or somebody is going to buy something that they think will work, but turns out was for a different year truck, etc. It happens all to often. Having different threads for different styles of headlight housings (98-00, and 01+) should help to prevent confusion, and spread information more accurately.
